Bulldogs Win 2007 Football Championship
Welcome to the Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs Football Alumni Website. The team had a very successful 2007 season as they finished third in their 10 team league, with a 5-2 record, and then swept St. Catharines Collegiate, Stamford Collegiate, and A.N. Myer in the playoffs to win the championship. This was Churchill’s first championship since the 2003 season and the players and coaches were rewarded for their hard work. SWC had 53 players on their roster with 32 returning from the 2006 team and 21 newcomers joining the squad. SWC is eligible to return 49 of their players for the 2008 season. For more on this championship season please read the history page.

Letter to Alumni from Head Coach Peter Perron
I, as head coach, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the players and coaches of the 2007 SWC Bulldog Football Team.
The players of this years’ edition of the SWC Bulldogs showed such a rapid evolution and maturity of character that it would make past alumni proud. Their hard work, perseverance, dedication, pride, and academic and athletic excellence has put this championship team on par with other successful SWC teams. It has been my pleasure to have taught and coached such a fine group of young men and I’m ecstatic for them in earning the prestige of winning the championship in what I believe is one of the toughest divisions of football around.
The game was played on a truly Canadian day on a snow-covered field in Niagara Falls. Our fans were numerous and loud and to defeat a previously undefeated team on their own turf (which they hadn’t lost on in 4 years) made this a truly memorable game for the players, coaches, and fans.
I would also be remiss if I did not give thanks to my coaches who put in countless hours on and off the field to build our team to championship status.
Individually I would like to thank my defensive coaches Steve Cook (defensive co-ordinator) and Scott Hill for creating and developing a defense that could counter-act other teams’ offences. Steve, I can say, put in countless hours in scouting and watching tape vs A.N. Myer to the effect that his game plan was so effective that the Myer offensive coaches could not run a play without Steve and his charges knowing what they were going to do. Scott Hill was the control and intensity that made our linebackers fire on all cylinders. Scott, you mentored John Lee to be the defensive star of that championship game.
On the offensive side of the ball Peter Partridge (offensive co-ordinator) and Bob Krzeczkowski developed the quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers into the highest scoring offense in the league. The most frightening thing is that Peter and Bob’s backfield core is only going to get stronger next year. Great job Peter and Bob!
From the line perspective I would like to thank Tim Hough and Alex Stewart in assisting me with the lines this year. Together we developed players who for the most part played only one-way but who were the most technically sound and physically tough defensive and offensive lines we have had in many years.
Finally I would like to thank the Alumni for all the support you have shown throughout the year (s). Your commitment to this team at many levels has helped develop our program so that we can offer present and future players some of the memories, opportunities, and traditions you were privileged to have. I hope to see you all again at our annual golf tournament and share some of this years great memories.
Sincerely,
Peter Perron
Head Coach
Role of the Alumni
The 2007 Bulldog football team sported new home and away uniforms and they have the alumni to thank for that. The Bulldog Football Alumni Association was re-kindled in 2001. On June 22, 2001 the Alumni Association hosted a very successful reunion honouring Coach Paul Salfi for his 35 years of coaching with the program. Over 300 people attended and individuals from all eras came to honour Coach Salfi. There was representation from across Canada and the US and many who were unable to attend forwarded generous donations.
In 2003 the Alumni Association started an annual golf tournament with proceeds going towards the football program. Paul Salfi passed away in May 2003, about a month before the first tournament, and the tournament was subsequently named the Paul Salfi Memorial Golf Tournament. Each year over 100 alumni and friends of Bulldog Football get together for a round of golf, a great dinner and reception at Cats Caboose, and most importantly a chance to get caught up with old friends and teammates.
The Alumni Association is committed to helping the football program by contributing the “extras” that would not fall within the school’s budget. Sir Winston’s Athletic Department is 100% responsible for players’ equipment, paying referees, lining the field, paying for buses etc. Some of the items that the Alumni Association has purchased for the team include a new one-man blocking sled, a “quick-feet” rope apparatus, some blocking bags, and two tackling/blocking dummies. In 2006, with a portion of the proceeds, the alumni purchased a Focus Neuromuscular Stimulator machine for a former player, Greg Pickles. In October 2004, Greg severed the brachial plexus nerve in his neck while making a tackle on a kick-off and he has spent countless hours trying to regain some of the use of his right arm. Future goals for the Alumni Association are to partner with the school with regards to an electronic scoreboard and improvements to the field. The team would also love to see lights so the Bulldogs can play home games at night.
