Letter to Alumni from Head Coach Peter Perron – 2008
The question a coach and players often ask themselves is how do you top a previous years’ championship? The response this years SWC Bulldogs team gave was to go 7-0 in the regular season and run the playoff gauntlet to beat the only other undefeated team in the championship game. What made this season even more exciting was the addition of two new teams from Division 1 which expanded the Varsity League to 12 teams and made the division even more challenging than in previous years. So to finish the season 10-0 overall with one of the best offensive and defensive records, speaks volumes about the talent of this team. Similar to last season we had players who through their dedication, pride, work ethic, great athleticism, and drive to win, truly exemplified the Bulldog’s team concept of “actions speaking louder than words”. This “TEAM” concept was shown by the depth of this Bulldogs edition. When key players went down to injury the team did not despair, but rather stepped up it’s intensity with numerous veterans and rookies accepting new roles to keep the team progressing forward. In the Championship Game, after spotting the Stamford Hornets a 14 point lead, the Bulldogs finished the first half with a touchdown pass to Jeff Finley to make the score 14-6 for Stamford. The second half started with a successful trick on-side kick recovery which led to a Jon Demetriades field goal. Going into the fourth quarter our team’s character and grit came through with our defense not only shutting out Stamford for the half, but by scoring a touchdown when defensive tackle Ryan Peters stripped the football and Devon Miller recovered it in the end zone for the major and the 15-14 lead. The Bulldogs defense held Stamford on the next series and then the offense took charge late in the game and systematically ran time down culminating with our team taking 2 knees on the 15 yard line. To the players I would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication in fulfilling your potential of being true “Champions”. To the managers, I truly appreciate the time and hard work you put into helping the team run smoothly before, during, and after practices and games. To this years coaching staff I would like to thank Scott Hill (Defensive Coordinator), Steve Cook, and Jim Thibodeau for putting together an aggressive attack oriented defense which proved to be one of the stingiest in the league. On the offensive side of the ball Peter Partridge (offensive coordinator) and Bob Krzeczkowski developed a fantastic balanced attack which was difficult to predict and stop. Coaches, your effort, expertise, and countless hours that you dedicate is truly appreciated by both myself and the players. Finally, I would like to thank the alumni for all the support you have given us throughout the years. This support helps us, not only in developing quality individuals but also in developing a pride and sense of belonging with a group of former players who have become positive role models within the community. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2009, your generous towards our new Alumni Scoreboard will be proudly displayed in our upcoming and future seasons. I hope to meet you again not only at our annual golf tournament in June but also at the various events held throughout the year and especially at our football games where we strive towards the elusive “Threepeat”! Please take the opportunity to peruse our SWC 50th Anniversary link to register your name for upcoming events.
Letter to Alumni from Head Coach Peter Perron - 2007
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the players and coaches of the 2007 SWC Bulldog Football Team. The players of this years’ edition of the SWC Bulldogs showed such a rapid evolution and maturity of character that it would make past alumni proud. Their hard work, perseverance, dedication, pride, and academic and athletic excellence has put this championship team on par with other successful SWC teams. It has been my pleasure to have taught and coached such a fine group of young men and I’m ecstatic for them in earning the prestige of winning the championship in what I believe is one of the toughest divisions of football around. The game was played on a truly Canadian day on a snow-covered field in Niagara Falls. Our fans were numerous and loud and to defeat a previously undefeated team on their own turf (which they hadn’t lost on in 4 years) made this a truly memorable game for the players, coaches, and fans. Individually I would like to thank my defensive coaches Steve Cook (defensive co-ordinator) and Scott Hill for creating and developing a defense that could counter-act other teams’ offences. On the offensive side of the ball Peter Partridge (offensive co-ordinator) and Bob Krzeczkowski developed the quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers into the highest scoring offense in the league. From the line perspective I would like to thank Tim Hough and Alex Stewart in assisting me with the lines this year. Together we developed players who for the most part played only one-way but who were the most technically sound and physically tough defensive and offensive lines we have had in many years. Finally I would like to thank the Alumni for all the support you have shown throughout the past 7 years. Your commitment to this team at many levels has helped develop our program so that we can offer present and future players some of the memories, opportunities, and traditions you were privileged to have.
