2009 - The Year of the Scoreboard

Hopefully by now all of you have seen the new Alumni Scoreboard at SWC.  This was erected just prior to the school’s 50th reunion in May 2009 and it has been extremely well received by faculty, students, and alumni alike.

The vision started just in the spring of 2008 when the Bulldog Football Alumni Association decided to fundraise for this new scoreboard.  The proceeds from the 2008 golf tournament started the fundraising ball rolling.  Former Bulldogs Mike Thorne and John Netherway, who own Just Junk, graciously made a $5,000 donation and that continued the momentum.  Soon thereafter, alumni, parents, and friends of the program made some donations and the scoreboard was ordered in the late summer, pending city approval.

The project stalled for a few months as some variances were needed from City Hall.  However, donations continued and the football team ran a fundraiser and contributed $2,000 to the project. Finally City Councillor, Joe Kushner, got involved and quickly the permit was received from City Hall.  Hence, the scoreboard was ordered early in January 2009.  The goal was to have the scoreboard up for SWC’s 50th reunion and this goal was attained. 

Everyone affiliated with the program is excited to see this amazing scoreboard in action.  Hopefully the Bulldogs can three-peat and add another championship to their illustrious history.  Here are some pictures of the scoreboard.
